Compression comes after compliance

Avoid common rejection reasons

A small file can still be rejected when the photo is blurred, pixelated, over-edited, poorly lit, tilted, or has shadows on the face or background. The official guidance calls for eyes open and visible, a natural expression, a direct camera view, natural skin tone, and no hair across the eyes. Glare or reflections from glasses can be a problem; head coverings are limited to religious reasons and must not obscure facial features. Start from a recent, sharp, well-lit original with a plain white background. Do not use beauty filters or computer alterations to change appearance.

Make the upload file safely

Crop and resize the original to the required dimensions first, then compress a copy only as far as the upload portal permits. Keep the aspect ratio intact; stretching a 3:4 image to fit can distort a face. Use the file type and maximum size specified by the application portal, download the output, and check it before upload. The Passport Seva guidance also changes over time, and the final acceptance decision is always the authority’s, not this tool’s. For a minor applicant or a consular submission, confirm whether a printed 4.5 × 3.5 cm photograph is required in addition to an online image.
